On Wednesday: Home with Cats #1

I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul.”
--Jean Cocteau

Chase Bird, one of our Angels

The quote above is one of my favorites because for me, it’s true.

Waddles, who made her journey to the Rainbow Bridge in 2011

Sam, who went to the Rainbow Bridge in 2013,
and Thunder Cat, who passed away in 2009

Cats change a home. For my husband and me, cats make our home a more pleasant place. A place that we, in trying to create a quiet and peaceful place for the cats, have made more quiet and peaceful for ourselves.

The “visible soul” of a home becomes different when cats are present.

Every Wednesday, I’ll explore different ways home is changed, improved, and complicated when cats are part of that home. Of course, it’s not all pretty. Some of what I’ll write about are the things we have in our home that we’d rather not have.

But always, in the end, the home is a better place when following cats.

If you have cats, how do they affect your home? If you don't, what helps you see the "visible soul" of your home?

  2. Thanks for stopping by our blog! We love making new furiend and will be following your blog :)
Love that quote too. I agree with all that you said. Our 5 kitties make our home a much more peaceful, warmer, and soulful place. Our home wouldn't be home without them.

    1. Thank you for coming by! Yes, home would definitely not be the same without our kitties.

  3. We are struggling with the new cat Bobby because he had decided Cort is his person but Cort is very allergic to cats so when Bobby sneaks in to his bed at night he ends up with swollen eyes and asthma attacks. Cort adores Bobby and it is hard to try to separate the two of them.

    1. That is so hard! The kitties bother my asthma only if I'm in an enclosed room for a while with them, like when I was sleeping in the kitty room with Abbey when we first brought her home.

  4. Though we do enjoy getting out, at heart Shep and me are homebodies. Cats seem to embody what we most love and try to maintain about our Home: peace, quiet, contentment, comfort, routine, occasional playfulness.

Besides, the only thing that makes a cozy fire even cozier is a kitty purring on the hearth!

  5. My cat affects our home by his calming (as well as crazy presence) . He is an amazing friend to our dog, he soothes me when I pet him...........I can't imagine my life without a cat! catchatwithcarenandcody

  6. Great post, that is one of my favorite quotes too. All your kitties ( past and present) are beautiful. Two of ours have gone to The Rainbow Bridge over the past 5 months, but they will always be part of our home and heart.

    1. Thank you! I am sorry for your losses. I know it is so difficult to go through that. Our cats who have gone to the Bridge are a part of our home and hearts too.

  9. i don't have cats, or a dog....the soul of my home is me. and i am not afraid to say that. it is the pictures i hang on the walls, the sweet sentiments i scatter about the tables, the items i create with my hands. it's my handmade meals and treats....it's the feeling of love you feel when you are here!!!!!
