On Wednesday—Home with Cats #8: Adapt

I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul.”
--Jean Cocteau

Every Wednesday, we explore different ways home is changed, improved, and complicated when cats are part of that home.

***

In any home where more than one human or fur baby lives, everyone must adapt to others’ needs. In a home with cats, it’s usually the humans that adapt. And that’s OK.

On this particular evening, Larry got ready to do some work at his computer desk. But Natasha had settled quite comfortably into his desk chair.

Did he move Natasha out of his chair? Of course not!

Did Natasha say, “Oh, Papa, let me move out of your way”? Of course not!

Larry simply rolled Natasha back a bit, got another chair, and sat down to do his work. And everyone was happy.

Can you relate?

Note: Larry is mostly cropped out of this photo to respect his wishes not to have his image on the blog. He’s a friendly man—and he loves animals!—but shy about photos.

  2. My two just took my favored spot on the couch. Almost as we speak. So, of course, I just moved.

  3. At least you can call him by his name: I can only post about 'The Hubby'! Just so you know, we've added another chair to our dining area, just so two humans (and always one cat) can sit down to eat!

  7. I don't blame Larry a bit... I hate having my picture taken too!

After your comment on my blog post today I thought I would add that I keep a print out in my first aid kit of OTC human meds that are safe for cats (and a list of toxic ones) as well as the proper dosage for the weight of my cats. I have another list for our dog. There have been times when OTC meds have proven very helpful for our pets in the past, as long as you know which ones are safe.

  11. It's the same here. My mum never moves me if I have her chair.

  12. I must confess that I do push the cats off my computer chair or else sit on the very edge of it while they take up most of the seat. It's neat that Larry loves the kitties enough to give up his chair.
