I Wish I Could Stretch Like a Cat

How I wish I could stretch like a cat.

I’ve been struggling with sciatica for a while. I finally went to the doctor last week (yes, I should have gone sooner), and she gave me some medicine and put me on a stretching regime to loosen up the muscles in my lower back, which are very tight.

It’s something I will have to keep doing, she said, because sciatica can come back.

So morning and night, I stretch and do yoga poses. It feels good. But though I’m gradually getting looser and feeling better, I still can’t stretch as well as I did when I did yoga regularly. Which I’m going to start doing again.

I watch my cats stretching their bodies, and I think about how good that must feel to them. And how beautiful they look when they do it.

The kitties are funny when I get out my yoga mat. They want to sit on it. Or play with the Velcro strap.

But no one wants to help me stretch. They’re waiting for me to catch up with them.

  2. We knew Chuck had a problem, when he STOPPED stretching out his back legs! We called the animal chiropractor, and Chuck has been right as rain ever since. And watching Sweetie stretch after leaving her warm Cat Hotel in the morning just makes me smile.

  3. Mine always try to chew my yoga mat. I think they are passive aggressive towards yoga. I hope you feel better!
