Remembering Sam

Sam passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013. She was 17 years old.

Larry had Sam before we even started dating. The first time I met her, Larry was holding her. I leaned over to talk to her and got too close. She smacked me on the forehead. Lesson learned. You could put your face close to Waddles, but not Sam.

She decided to let me be her Mama anyway.

Sam adored Larry above all others. She followed him around and liked to sleep beside him.

When she entered a room, she made an entrance. She would stop just inside the doorway and look around. “I’m here!” she seemed to be saying.

Instead of a meow, she made the funniest little sound that’s hard to describe. It was a throaty, almost coarse noise. And she would talk back and carry on a conversation with you.

Sam's Valentine to Larry in February 2011

It’s been three years, and it still hurts to think of that morning when we said goodbye. We remember you today and every day, Sam, and we love you forever.

  4. Oh, Sam was beautiful -- and I love those photos of her with Larry. And the heart. I think probably everyone who reads your blog has had to say goodbye to a dear pet family member and knows that the sense of loss doesn't go away and those anniversaries are reminders. I'm so very glad you shared this with us today.

  5. She sounds adorable! And I laughed out loud at the smacking. Cats have no trouble expressing how they fell. I know that sound you're talking about. One of my cats does it and it's so cute.

  7. What a beautiful angel. Sounds like she was strong-willed and opinionated, too... as all beautiful angels should be.

  9. Sam was a beautiful Tuxie. OMCs the way she is sitting in that 2nd picture forms a purrfect heart on her lovely white chest.

As for a furry sibling, I got over it. Now Mom says I'm a resident diva and at 14 1/2 it would not be a good idea to interrupt my reign.
    Hugs madi your bfff

  16. this was beautiful, thank you for sharing Sam with us. She sounded like quite the cat. I know what you mean about it "hurting when you remember that day", I lost my Angel Bobo in 2007, much longer than Sam has been gone, and when I replay that awful day, I could still sob as if it just happened. (((hugs))) to you all catchatwithcarenandcody
